000 FXUS64 KLCH 281131 AFDLCH Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Lake Charles LA 631 AM CDT Wed Oct 28 2026 ...New AVIATION... .KEY MESSAGES... - Warm afternoons and cool nights will continue through the week. - Dry weather anticipated through Friday, with rain chances returning to the forecast late Friday through Saturday. - Wildfire risk will remain elevated each afternoon in response to worsening drought conditions and afternoon relative humidity dropping to 30-60%. && .DISCUSSION... (Tonight through next Tuesday) Issued at 1157 PM CDT Tue Oct 27 2026 The ridge aloft is gradually flattening and weakening. Moisture aloft is also streaming by from Tropical Storm Vance in the Atlantic. A surface high over New England is keeping winds generally east. Moisture increased somewhat over the past day as a weak inverted trough passed by to the south of the area, however a drier airmass will again seep back in on the east flow. PWAT on the 0z LCH sounding was 1.55" with a fall back to near 0.75" possible Thursday evening. By the end of the week, a short wave will move from the Baja into the plains. The ridge aloft will shift to the SE coast while weakening. Rain chances will increase late Fri into Sat as the short wave passes to the north. This event is definitely not expected to be a drought buster, but any rain is welcome at this point. A brief dry period is expected Sunday into early Monday before the next system moves across the region. && .AVIATION... (12Z TAFS) Issued at 627 AM CDT Wed Oct 28 2026 Some patchy, shallow ground fog is being observed across the region this morning. This fog will dissipate by 13Z with VFR conditions to prevail thereafter through the day along with light easterly winds courtesy of an elongated area of high pressure extending down much of east coast. Light winds and mostly clear skies will support another round of patchy, shallow ground fog between 08 and 12Z Thursday morning with probabilities of development presently ranging from 20-30%. Jones && .MARINE... Issued at 1157 PM CDT Tue Oct 27 2026 A light to moderate easterly flow continues into the first half of the weekend, with occasional gusts to 15-20 kts possible over the weekend as the pressure gradient briefly tightens. Dry conditions will continue into Friday. Friday afternoon, rain chances return and remain elevated through Saturday as a surge of moisture overspreads the region. && .FIRE WEATHER... Issued at 1157 PM CDT Tue Oct 27 2026 A dryer airmass will again seep back into the region today and Thursday before moisture increases Friday and Saturday. Rain finally returns to the area late Fri into Sat. && .LCH WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... LA...None. TX...None. GM...None. && $$ PUBLIC/FIRE/MARINE...05 AVIATION...66
