the weekend, with an increased rip current risk

the Brush Country and Rio Grande Plains Thursday

.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 118 AM CDT Wed Oct 28 2026
Low to medium rain chances will continue over the Coastal Plains
today as another shortwave moves across the area. By Thursday, the
remnants of Pacific Tropical Storm Vance will move into South Texas,
with the highest moisture along the Rio Grande. This will shift
medium rain chances over the Brush Country and Rio Grande Plains.
WPC has placed the Brush Country under a Marginal Risk (level 1 out
of 4) of excessive rainfall Thursday, with a Slight Risk (level 2
out of 4) extending into northwestern portions of the region.
Locally heavy rainfall and isolated flash flooding will be possible,
especially where storms become persistent or training develops.
Isolated flooding and ponding will be possible in low lying poor
drainage areas. However, uncertainty remains regarding the location
and magnitude of the heaviest rainfall. Rain chances will diminish
to low Friday into the weekend as the remnants move to the
northeast. Fortunately, rain chances look like they will be out of
the area by the evening Saturday night and we will remain dry
through the rest of the weekend.
Another cold front is possible Tuesday, which could increase our
rain chances once again. For now, we will continue to focus on the
beneficial rain this week.
Minor coastal flooding remains a concern through much of the week as
persistent onshore flow, elevated swell periods, and astronomical
tides contribute to higher water levels during high tide. An
increased risk of rip currents will also persist.

.AVIATION...
(12Z TAFS)
Issued at 624 AM CDT Wed Oct 28 2026
Scattered showers indicated by radar are currently moving
northwest from the coastal waters toward CRP and ALI. The activity
is expected to continue to spread farther inland toward VCT later
this morning and COT and LRD later this afternoon. Rain chances
diminish across the eastern sites by this evening, but continue
across the western TAF sites as convection moves in from Mexico
overnight. Chances are low after 06Z, thus, did not include any
mention of convection beyond that time. Have included PROB30
groups to account for the timing of convection at the different
TAF sites with MVFR, possibly IFR, conditions at times. Outside of
the convection, CIGs are expected to be at VFR levels, generally
above 4kft. Gusty winds can be expected in and around the
convection. Otherwise, east to southeast winds at 5-15 knots are
forecasted.
&&
.MARINE...
Issued at 118 AM CDT Wed Oct 28 2026
Gentle to moderate (BF 3-4) southeasterly flow will persist through
much of the week, with seas generally 3 to 5 feet, occasionally
reaching 6-7 feet offshore early Tuesday. Medium to high rain
chances are expected through Wednesday, with lower chances Thursday
and Friday. Locally higher winds and seas will be possible near
thunderstorms.
&&
.FIRE WEATHER...
Issued at 118 AM CDT Wed Oct 28 2026
Abundant low-level moisture and winds generally below 20 knots will
limit fire weather concerns through the forecast period. Showers and
thunderstorms through the work week will continue to limit fire
weather concerns.
