000 FXUS61 KALY 281049 AFDALY Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Albany NY 649 AM EDT Wed Oct 28 2026 .WHAT HAS CHANGED... No significant changes with this forecast update. && .KEY MESSAGES... 1) Mainly dry weather will continue through this weekend with the only chance for some light showers on Thursday night, especially for areas north and west of Albany. && .DISCUSSION... KEY MESSAGE 1... Upper level ridging will be in place across eastern New York and western New England through Thursday. High pressure slides off to the east today allowing for a south to southwesterly return flow to return to the region. This will allow for a gradual increase in temperatures as well as low level moisture. Near normal high temperatures in the 50s to lower 60s today will trend above normal to the 60s to near 70 by Thursday. A shortwave tracking up and over the ridge will bring some mid and high clouds today into tonight but no precipitation is expected. The only chance for any light showers will occur Thursday night as a cold front crosses the region. Moisture will be limited with the best forcing remaining well to the north across Canada. Still, some moisture getting picked up from the Great Lakes should allow for some light rain showers, mainly for areas north and west of Albany. There is the chance a few rain showers may extend eastward into the Capital District and some points south and east, but not enough confidence to include any PoPs at this time. Any rainfall amounts will be light and under 0.10 inches. Drier weather returns regionwide Friday into next weekend as another high pressure system builds overhead with upper level flow becoming more zonal. Friday looks to be breezy behind the cold front with some gusts 25 to 30 mph, especially from the Mohawk Valley into the Capital District and Berkshires. Model spread increases significantly for early next week leading to low confidence on when our next best chance for more widespread rainfall occurs. && .AVIATION /12Z WEDNESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/... Through 12z/Thu...VFR conditions are expected through much of the upcoming TAF period. High clouds will stick around through this afternoon. A few patchy mid and high clouds will likely linger through Wednesday evening as well but some clearing is possible overnight. With an increase in low level moisture, some patchy fog may form at some sites but confidence on this is low, so left out of the TAFs at this time. Light to calm winds tonight will become southerly 4-8 kt on Wednesday, trending light to calm again Wednesday night. Outlook... Thursday Night: No Operational Impact. NO SIG WX.
