Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Pago Pago AS
123 PM SST Tue Oct 27 2026

.DISCUSSION...
Observations from this afternoon's upper air sounding show dry
conditions lingering over the islands. This is reflected on the
latest satellite imageries with open-cell cumuli clouds moving
across the islands. As a high pressure system to the southeast
continue to exit to the east of the region, winds will decrease to
a gentle to moderate breeze on Wednesday through at least Friday
night. Scattered showers is possible for this period.

By Saturday, another high pressure system to the southwest will
migrate east as it increases winds again to a fresh breeze.
Showers embedded within the wind flow will likely move across the
islands from time to time for this forecast period.

&&

.Marine...
Although observations from the PacIOOs buoy near Aunu'u show seas
have subsided slightly within the last couple of hours, rough
conditions still remain across the coastal waters of American
Samoa. Peak periods of more than 10 seconds long together with
seas around 8 to 12 feet will likely enhance surfs along the
coastaline, especially during high tide. Model data show seas
trending downward as east-southeasterly winds have decreased to a
moderate flow through at least Friday night. Seas are expected to
also remain favorable for this time frame. By late Friday into the
rest of the weekend, winds will slightly increase to a fresh
breeze, potentially building seas again. In the meantime,
advisories for small crafts and high surfs with a moderate risk of
rip currents remain in effect through at least Wednesday
afternoon.
